Dark/Twisted Comedy!
No, but if the hats were clouds, how’s Purple doing it? And what about Harold and his limbs? I get a feeling that this is all tied to Assistant and the dark overlord, and I cannot wait to find out how this is explained.
Do we even know if he is using magic i mean it might be a device he's using though they mentioned something about in the chapter we first were introduced
@Guest: True. But if it's an ongoing enchantment, it might be the kind of thing that only needs to be cast once. Or renewed every blue moon or something.
@Guest: When Harold tries to talk to the dark lord #567 he says "I know you gave her that hat! But her hair didn't change... nor her eyes! So you stole her R E A L hat!" and "Do you have any idea how hard it is to live without magic!?"
Indicating that he didn't actually find his own hat in the end. Harold probably had to make a deal with the overlord to recive a "fake" hat, resulting in black hair and red eyes. Since the hat isn't the real one it's possibly some unknown magic/curse in there caused by the dark overlord. Afterall, the lemonheads praises him as a god.
I have realized that no one in this universe has actual eyes; they just have sclera and a really large Iris. This is making the comic slowly turn into something that is mortifying.
@Darth AWQ: I like it! I also believe the clouds have to do with their hats. About the wands, it's unknown if you need to actually have your wand in your hand to use it, maybe touching it is enough? If the wand was in the cloud it could easily touch her head as well as staying hidden.
Welp. I messed up too, I remembered that time when the stratoversian duo removed their clouds to look less suspicious. They could get it back no problem without any contact to the wands.. Still holding on to the thought that touching the body is enough to access magic.
The whole cloud hair being their hats make sense! I mean, Stratoversians ARE the only ones who have cloud hair. As for the whole wandless thing, perhaps they just have their wands in their hats.
But that cloud hair thing could just be completely optional, indigo could just choose to wear his hat as a hat and hold his wand. Wait... this makes sense for stratoversians, but there is still purple
@Guest: It could be genetic.
Indigo would be the anomaly, but he could have just bought a hat or made one to cover up the fact that he is from Stratoverse.
Is there a way to break in into a Stratoversian library, and steal books that reveal the loopholes of the laws of magic?
Because I GET SO FUCKING CURIOUS THE MORE THEY TALK!!!
We know that the clouds as hats is not the case cause indigo is stratoversian and he has a hat and a wand. The clouds are just magic hair. We saw this happen during his date.
Well that explains indigo's hat and wand. Speaking of him, maybe he'll be the one that will reveal what this loophole is. He seems like the most likely person to do so...
@MindTraveler: Or they use them to fly. You might no be able to use magic on yourself, but you can still make something magical to hold you up. So if the clouds are not their hats, they would be a contratption to allow flight, unless flight is genetic like the Ecoversian's ability to grow food.
ok so i dont know exactly whats happening but i THINK that their clouds are the things that make them fly because when cirrus and nim take off the clouds they are not flying. i know they dont have to fly WITH the clouds but they dont fly without it for sure. im thinking maybe, since everyones magic in stratoverse is weather-y, they are all taught to use the clouds' properties so that they can fly or something and indigo never learned that, which is why he cant fly????
@lol: Yeah, he said that as kids, Stratoversians learned about the properties of clouds all the time so that they would get cloud powers and join their family in the clouds. Since Indigo didn't end up getting cloud powers (or he did and he turned purple after, since he still has the power to get the cloud on his head? I'm not sure. Or maybe that's one of the plotholes CQ mentioned), he couldn't live up in the clouds with everyone else, and I assume he can't fly either.
Guys maybe the question we should be asking is why do the Stratoversians use the Loophole? Could it be for protection, safekeeping? I'm thinking since magic cannot be inflicted on living things due to the right of protection, then magic can be used against wands and hats since these are not living things. This could also explain why Assistant's hat and wand were kept away from her by the Dark Lord.
@Parthos:
"Why do you harvest the energy that allows the planet to thrive and use it for your own desires?"
"Well, Solar Panels take twice as long to heat up my coffee..."
@Guest: Still we have to remember that Purple has a hat...we just haven't seen it. But he's said that he has one. I think he said it earlier in this chapter actually.
@Jmac: Nonononononono
Nono says no.
Purple has a hat. And you don't need a hat on your head to cast magic, it's just better than carrying around on your back. The hat is needed to start magic but not needed to perpetually hold. However, it does store your wand.
@Jmac: No, remember when Wallis got mad at Purple after he appeared in the crater? He tried to get Purple to do magic without his hat and wand, and he couldn't do it without preparation. That's why I think he uses the same loophole as the Stratoversians do, or maybe a different one.
1. You have the law of protection... based on it, we can say that Wallis is a freaking powerful wizard and doesn't know the dimension of his powers, once he broke this rule not once (making Harold's limbs disappear 'by accident'), but TWICE (making his own limbs disappear). And I can guess he has any kind of connection with Dark Overlord, because his eyes turned red and his hair was black at some point during his battle agains Cake Girl just before he disappeares... Maybe something related to his father...?
2. The law of passage... I guess it's just more than obvious that Harold has been born without magic (or have lost his ability along with his limbs) and had to make a contract with Dark Overlord to get a fake hat that doesn't really belong to him (and acts like some kind of portal by wich the lemon kids get to this world), what makes me wanna know more about him and his struggles!
3. FOR GODDAMN HEAVENS, PLEASE EXPLAIN MORE ABOUT COLOR MAGIC!! HOW DO PEOPLE GET IT? WHY DO THEY CHANGE BODY COLOR? AND THEIR NAMES?? AND THEIR WANDS???
@Artikah: No, it's more likely to be convection currents. Warm air rises, cold air sinks. Therefore, by heating up their cloud somewhat the Stratoversians can soar into the sky, and then they cool it down to descend.
In addition to this, the Queen's cloud hair is freaking huge. Nim's and Cirrus's are average, I guess, but Indigo's is small when we see it. Does this have something to do with their magic levels? Bigger hair equals bigger magic? Should I grow my hair more?!?
@Artikah: Yes always grow more hair XD
Virga (her name) probably has large hair because she is fairly by which I mean probably extremely egoistical. It's a sign of power, like a crest or lining your palace silverware with gold.
My question is, where are their hats? The Queen had a crown, I think, but neither Cirrus or Nim have a hat I can see. I'm going to go back and look at their designs.
K, another question. What magic do Ecocersians have? And where are their hats? Why is no one talking about them?!? Or the other 'verses? I really want to see Steamverse.
@Artikah: Ecoversians have magic pertaining to the natural world, e.g Water, plants, etc.
Petunia has powers like that of an Ecoversian but is not one.
Assistant is probably at least 3rd/4th generation Ecoversian because of her skin tone. (If she was second, she would potentially have Green Hair and it would be obvious in her parents)
Yeah, I literally couldn't think about anything else for the rest of that arc. Makes sense to me now, though, seeing as some clouds can take on a light indigo colour sometimes.
I've been seeing theories about cloud hair hats etc. but is everyone forgetting that Indigo specifically said that Stratoversions have cloud magic because they were removed from their family and the rest of society, forcing them to desire the ability the fly. The only thing they really cared about was receiving cloud magic, thus, giving it to them.
I don't think the clouds are their hair at all. It seems kinda far fetched. Plus, Indigo has a hat and a wand. I think the cloud magic might be a magic that contains abilities outside the magic rules, that's the loophole.
The cloud magic gave them strange hair and the ability to fly. Possibly why they don't wear hats if they even have any. It could be possible that there are types of magic that have specific properties or abilities outside the rules.
For first ref, go to DrMcNinja.com and go to chp 4 page 39. There is a secret there. The second is essentially the context of the plot of Gunnerkrigg court.
@Maybe just maybe: He made an Ectoplasmic slide projection. Obviously. What else would he have done, an advanced thaumaturgic sequence, possibly involving a wolf spirit, a computer, a fire elemental descendant, and a bureacracy?
@Ram3nNoodlez: I think it's Tuesdays and Thursdays but it is highly erratic.

@Muix: emoji thinking
Huh.... interesting....
WAs... Was it.. Is the cloud hair their equivalent for hats? I THINK I FIGURED IT OUTT?
@DAMNIT I FIGURED IT OUT: No, their hats are just so small that they just hid in their cloud hair. And then their actual hair.
@HamVerse: I cant tell if you are being sarcastic or actually serious about this.
@DAMNIT I FIGURED IT OUT:
Theory: The cheat is using magic on the air surrounding them.
@Jaakusan: Logically, it could be.
But also logically, they aren't visibly using a wand while doing so.
@Guest: True. But if it's an ongoing enchantment, it might be the kind of thing that only needs to be cast once. Or renewed every blue moon or something.
Okay. What about Harold?
hats so tiny you cant even see'em!!!
Well, Indigo's pretty big
@sophie12320: They use MAGIC to make'm tiny!
I mean... That's something, but we still haven't figured out Harold's lemon kids
@Guest: When Harold tries to talk to the dark lord #567 he says "I know you gave her that hat! But her hair didn't change... nor her eyes! So you stole her R E A L hat!" and "Do you have any idea how hard it is to live without magic!?"

Was that pun intended?
@Guest: That's called 'Art style'
@TheFourthSoul: I know its an art style. However, its something that is so hard to notice that when you DO notice it sticks out.
Wooow...
Of course she can't tell you, look at that hair. It's so big because it's full of secrets
=D
You know, in laws like this, "loopholes" aren't usually common.
Theory: The "Clouds" the Stratoverians keep on their heads are their "Hats" and the Gloves they wear are their "Wands"
...Wait crap. Cirrus doesn't wear gloves. Hmmm. I'mma work on this
Great theory though
@Darth AWQ: I like it! I also believe the clouds have to do with their hats. About the wands, it's unknown if you need to actually have your wand in your hand to use it, maybe touching it is enough? If the wand was in the cloud it could easily touch her head as well as staying hidden.

@Darth AWQ: Cirrus keeps his in his pocket :)
@Darth AWQ: Yeah, that's the first thing I thought of too, but you're right about him not having gloves.
The whole cloud hair being their hats make sense! I mean, Stratoversians ARE the only ones who have cloud hair. As for the whole wandless thing, perhaps they just have their wands in their hats.
@dransnake: Issue: Indigo has both a hat and a wand.
But that cloud hair thing could just be completely optional, indigo could just choose to wear his hat as a hat and hold his wand. Wait... this makes sense for stratoversians, but there is still purple
@Guest: It could be genetic.
Indigo would be the anomaly, but he could have just bought a hat or made one to cover up the fact that he is from Stratoverse.
Maybe indigo got hat and wand for disguise? Or special curcumstances? Or he didn’t do something other strativersians do?
@Fire_Hoodie: It says that stratoversians get hats too. Maybe the VERY SKIES ARE THEIR HATS??!!!
I'm not even trying anymore tbh
Is there a way to break in into a Stratoversian library, and steal books that reveal the loopholes of the laws of magic?
Because I GET SO FUCKING CURIOUS THE MORE THEY TALK!!!
We know that the clouds as hats is not the case cause indigo is stratoversian and he has a hat and a wand. The clouds are just magic hair. We saw this happen during his date.
Can you do magic on your hat and wand? Because then changing their shape might work...
@Guest: Possibly? I mean, when you think back, Wallis and Harold have changed how their hats looked to match their outfits...
@Guest: DYE TYME!
DANGIT
Her fingers are full of small hats
Well that explains indigo's hat and wand. Speaking of him, maybe he'll be the one that will reveal what this loophole is. He seems like the most likely person to do so...
i bet she has a mini hat on her head and a mini wand under her gloves
I think they’re moving the clouds around their hair for style. Much like we dye our hair, but they attach clouds the them.
@MindTraveler: Or they use them to fly. You might no be able to use magic on yourself, but you can still make something magical to hold you up. So if the clouds are not their hats, they would be a contratption to allow flight, unless flight is genetic like the Ecoversian's ability to grow food.
I sense a dark storm brewing in Cloud Kingdom over there. What are you up to, you floofy magic-cheaters???
@Arky: No, the Cloud Kingdom is in Cucumber Quest.
they eat their hat and surgically implant their wand into their arm
Hmmmmm
@Guest: ...so they vomit up their hats?
@Guest: Except for Indigo, because he lived in Stratoverse but had a hat and wand. So not really plausible.
For flying, they probably manipulate the air around them to fly, as opposed to manipulating their bodies
@Guest: Yeah, probably.
Assistant are you okay?
ok so i dont know exactly whats happening but i THINK that their clouds are the things that make them fly because when cirrus and nim take off the clouds they are not flying. i know they dont have to fly WITH the clouds but they dont fly without it for sure. im thinking maybe, since everyones magic in stratoverse is weather-y, they are all taught to use the clouds' properties so that they can fly or something and indigo never learned that, which is why he cant fly????

I WANNA KNOW MORE ABOUT STRATOVERSE SO BAD
CURSE YOU CQ AND YOUR ABILITY TO FLAWLESSLY DODGE THE REAL QUESTIONS
@Thapps: Just use the GPS:
"Turn Left.
Turn Left.
In 500 feet, Turn Right.
Continue for half a mile.
Turn Left.
Vive la revolucion."
Guys maybe the question we should be asking is why do the Stratoversians use the Loophole? Could it be for protection, safekeeping? I'm thinking since magic cannot be inflicted on living things due to the right of protection, then magic can be used against wands and hats since these are not living things. @Parthos:
"Why do you harvest the energy that allows the planet to thrive and use it for your own desires?"
"Well, Solar Panels take twice as long to heat up my coffee..."
Do they like, eat their hats or something?
Maybe they all have huge coloured pupils and really thin black iris's?
Well even if stratos mages aren't ACTUALLY breaking the rules, the color magicians like Purple sure as hell are.
@Guest: Still we have to remember that Purple has a hat...we just haven't seen it. But he's said that he has one. I think he said it earlier in this chapter actually.
@Guest: Or maybe they use the same loophole? We don't really know yet
But purple knows how to use magic without a hat, so.....
@Jmac: Nonononononono
Nono says no.
Purple has a hat. And you don't need a hat on your head to cast magic, it's just better than carrying around on your back. The hat is needed to start magic but not needed to perpetually hold. However, it does store your wand.

DUN DUN DUNNNNNN
IS THAT WHY THEY HAVE FLOOF CLOUD HAIR
@Guest: Maybe, but I think Nim was flying even when she took the cloud off. I'm not sure though, don't quote me on that.
why so serious, assistant?
ohmygod. do they fucking,,, upload their hats and wands to The Cloud™ and access their magic through there, making their hair all cloudy????
Loool
Just a bunch of questions, but...
1. You have the law of protection... based on it, we can say that Wallis is a freaking powerful wizard and doesn't know the dimension of his powers, once he broke this rule not once (making Harold's limbs disappear 'by accident'), but TWICE (making his own limbs disappear). So I'm thinking that they manipulate water vapour to be able to fly.

The good news is, the next stop for the gang IS actually Steamverse-they need to get Assistant a new leg.
I’m still shocked Indigo is stratversian.
Stratoversian*
Yeah, I literally couldn't think about anything else for the rest of that arc. Makes sense to me now, though, seeing as some clouds can take on a light indigo colour sometimes.
Watch assistant's name be a color. WATCH! It's gonna end up being freaking rainbow or something. jkndbhyu;fuob
That is—
A very good theory
@Guest: Rainbow is not a color.
Just like friendship is not an emotion, and your face is not an organ.
Im still betting on it being Rectangle.
@Guest: I'm thinking her name is Ray or Rui, and her last name is something else, since we know her name is so short from the speech bubble.
Hold on... is it just Nim or do all of the cloud people have at least one extra little floating cloud next to them? Could that be their wand?
@Guest: !!!!!!!
Good point!
@Guest: That would make sense! It's not touching her, but maybe there's some loophole in that?
I've been seeing theories about cloud hair hats etc. but is everyone forgetting that Indigo specifically said that Stratoversions have cloud magic because they were removed from their family and the rest of society, forcing them to desire the ability the fly. Geez this is a long comment.
Maybe, Purple isn’t using magic to project those pictures. Maybe it’s just a projector thingy
@Maybe just maybe: boi get out of here. there is no projecter thingy you little idiot!!!
@Loverofpiggies what’s the posting scheduled for posting Gloomverse?
@Guest Tuesday's and Thursday's. The time depends on your time zone, but it's always right on the hour.
Do you have proof that he doesn’t have one?
Hmm?
@Maybe just maybe: He made an Ectoplasmic slide projection. Obviously. What else would he have done, an advanced thaumaturgic sequence, possibly involving a wolf spirit, a computer, a fire elemental descendant, and a bureacracy?
@Maybe just maybe: What would it project on? The air?
Yeah, I mean like a hologram-ish projector?
Looooooooop holesssss
What’s the posting schedule for the pages?
@Ram3nNoodlez: I think it's Tuesdays and Thursdays but it is highly erratic.
...ERRATIC! I WROTE ERRATIC! Seriously you nitwits have to make a joke out of everything ;)
Yep! They're right. The time it uploads depends on your time zone, but it's always the same and it's always on the hour. Hope this helped!
Plus some random uploads from time to time- if you really don't want to be surprised, you can follow her tumblr.
Thanks!
MY GOD, I JUST READ UP TO DATE AND I FRICKEN LOVE THIS COMIC! and pretty much all of your other comics xD
What if when stratoversians leave to the clouds, they get their wand sewn into their flesh?
If they can't apply magic to themselves, does this also include their clothing? If not, we have an answer.
Oh, and glove wands. Genius.
