This is one of my absolute favorite conversations to write. I wrote and rewrote this, just to try and get it right.

Thank you!

I love this so much and it's so important to talk about. We're so impatient with ignorance and prejudice and I think it does a lot of damage. It takes time for people to unlearn their biases. It takes time for people to open their minds and wrap their heads around things they've never been confronted with or oppose what they've always believed. When we demand that people change on the spot because we've suddenly exposed them to evidence that they might be wrong, they have a harder time changing their mindset because that just isn't how people work.
After watching people rag on ignorance and ignorant people day after day on social media, it's refreshing and validating to see this being addressed somewhere, especially as I am still trying to unravel the biases and prejudices I have. Thank you for this :)

dis commic gud. I HAVE A THEORY A GA-erm COMIC THEORY. So, they said that the colored people are probably decendants of the people in the ruins of the forgotten. And they were confused about why Rylie didn't change. I think that she's like the master, so she has rainbow magic, and IS the rainbow. Though, i am confused. If this is true, then how come blue became well blue, but cupcake girl is "normal", and they're sisters? sry for wall of text lol

Nua (Guest), February 6th, 2019, 7:28 am     Reply

@JustAComicVeiwer: There's probably more at play than just being descendent? Maybe it's a reincarnation thing, Fallstreak mentioned a next life in her speech. I don't think any of the Color's parents ever changed colors, too.

If it's reincarnation, Cakegirl could be completely normal even as Blue's sister...

@Nua: Well as normal as Cakegirl can be ;)

Yeah what you've been taught all your life is hard to get out of your head. Even if it's prejudiced bs

Growin up in a place where prejudices and racism is forced on you is rough in so many ways. The fact that Evets is rejectin that, or...i guess attemptin to, makes him a great person. Havin those thoughts don't make him a bad person, because they were ingrained in him. Now if he acted or spoke on them, that'd make him a bad person. but he clearly isn't doin that.

Random but...

Am I the only one who thinks Harold has far greater power or magic form that is somehow hidden from him. Maybe the DO is hiding it from him. I mean this is Gloomverse we are talkin about. He can't possibly be just a candy magician. Now that we know that he's basically dark overlords son I feel like his real magic is not yet known. AND he can make actual alive candy aka lemon kids. He is breaking a magical law

Guest, February 6th, 2019, 6:55 am     Reply

@Guest: there’s a theory going around that since Wallis has space powers, Harold might have time powers

Guest, February 6th, 2019, 7:04 am     Reply

@Guest: That may be true I wonder how this will tie into everything then... another interesting question is why the DO is keeping Harold's magic from him but is allowing Wallis to keep his? Unless Harold's magic is somehow very harmful or risky than Wallis'
Maybe the invisible limbs are a consequence of using this sort of magic?

Nua (Guest), February 6th, 2019, 7:30 am     Reply

@Guest: It's possible that Hobo didn't realize his kids' magic would be dangerous until Wallis got his and proved he could break the rules?? so he like. took Measures against that kinda thing happening again?

that said space magic can be dangerous but i can't see a way for time magic NOT to be dangerous, so it could be that too. if it's even time magic. it could be anything else at this point

Guest, February 6th, 2019, 7:48 am     Reply

@Nua: Oooh right! That didn't cross my mind. That's totally possible

i think space and time magic can be both similarly dangerous but who knows maybe time magic is actually worse. & yeah I agree it could be some other magic too. I guess since space & time usually go together and Wallis looks like he has space powers ppl are assuming Harolds magic might have something to do with time

Guest, February 7th, 2019, 6:26 am     Reply

@Guest: I kind of doubt it. See Harold's attempts at talking to "Dark Overlord" right after Rylie is hospitalized. Harold specifically implies that his eye color changed when he got his true hat, thus suggesting that he has no secret power.
That said, he might literally have a secret power but it is probably minor in comparison. Like manifesting energy bolts or something.

Time is almost definitely not the case, as it really doesn't fit Gloomverse's scenario. It seems unlikely that the team is going to go back to the Mancer time period (though that would explain why the rainbow killer looks like Rylie, because it would be Rylie), so I'd say no on Time. He might have literal dark powers though, but he's good enough as is.

mystic-malevolence (Guest), February 6th, 2019, 7:41 am     Reply

@Guest: I feel, the fact that this is Gloomverse is exactly why Harold can be just a candy magician. One's magic comes from their primary interests when they obtain it, and it doesn't change if you grow out of your interests, so I feel Harold showcases this pretty well.

Which is not to say he isn't powerful in his own right. I just don't think he needs to be any more than a candy magician.

Guest, February 6th, 2019, 8:01 am     Reply

@mystic-malevolence: Interesting. i do still think that Harold has a superior power that is hidden from him tho. Why else would the DO be worried about a "risk" or something concerning Harold
Another thing is that I saw somewhere CQ hinted at something about Harold's hat/magic being kept from him. And this is possibly why his eyes and hair changed color

@Loverofpiggies: Not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but second panel "After" is missing the T.

Keep up the amazing work! Love that Evets is having to deal with growing from his systematic racism. :) Gosh I love your stories!
