WH. WHY DID THEY STITCH THEIR WANDS INTO THEIR ARMS??? THAT'S TERRIFYING

Autumn273 (Guest), March 26th, 2019, 12:20 pm     Reply

@dransnake: What do you mean? That’s far more fascinating! I was a little disappointed with the initial reveal of it just being up their sleeve because while it was brilliant, it felt so plain and made me think, “How did no one figure this out or try it before?” This explains it and makes it much more interesting as well as expanding on the terror of that country’s restrictive rules and society.

@Moony: Well to be fair- though both are unsettling, their wands are still their own. Meanwhile the Judge took eyes from another who got into the country to be free from her own people's weakness. So that also means she must be the only one or one of the few inversians like that while stratoversians have this as a norm

Wow this got dark real fast!
I'm just still wondering how no one, not even very smart professors, scientists other than Purple didn't think of something like Rylie regarding Stratosverse magic
Or how no one in Stratosverse thought of revealing their secret. I mean people will be people, how can you keep a whole nation from keeping such a huge secret like that? There's obviously gotta be some people who wouldn't want to keep it a secret

Guest, March 28th, 2019, 9:52 am     Reply

@blehblehbleh: Stratoversians don't get out much. And the idea of sewing your wand into your arm is preposterous because of health hazards and trying to fix it, among other things. Stratoverse probably has refined the process over the generations, making it safe and non-lethal if things start to go south.

chaosblitz56 (Guest), March 27th, 2019, 8:56 am     Reply

ohhhh, so *thats* why Indigo left! (or at least one of the probable reasons. he still has his wand, after all)

THAT guy (Guest), March 27th, 2019, 9:59 am     Reply
Wait...

Wands are really hard to break physically, so this could mean several things, one being that arm is just plain harder to break. Alternatively it could be like that effect where a car drives into one of those pylon things and the front end folds around it and that's much worse.

Wow, I'm uncomfortable.

So, uh... how can they visually tell if their wand is breaking... I think... yeah, I think that might be a issue also, how would they go about fixing it they'd have to undo the stitches or, whatever and, then put it back in or, in the other arm... geez louise, Stratoversians are more metal than I thought.

Guest, March 28th, 2019, 9:05 am     Reply

Even more terrifying is that based on the picture, Nim has her arm twisted the wrong way.

emdanhan, March 28th, 2019, 7:06 pm     Reply
Oh.

Honestly I find this a bit disappointing. I mean, this is supposed to be a great mystery to people outside of stratoverse and they just hid it up their sleeves? It's kinda hard to believe that it wasn't found out by now.

Nua (Guest), March 30th, 2019, 12:42 pm     Reply

@emdanhan: It's stitched into their arm, so "just up their sleeve" is a bit of an understatement

emdanhan, March 30th, 2019, 12:57 pm     Reply

@Nua: Sure, it's more extreme but the scars are clearly visible so if someone did get a look at their bare arms it wouldn't be hard to guess what the scars are from. It's still hard to believe that no one else has figured this out.

Denruka (Guest), April 1st, 2019, 7:46 am     Reply

@emdanhan: Like what another pointed out- doesn't seem like Stratoversians go out a lot and they're said to be powerful- so unless you're on good terms with them, I don't know if one can so easily pull away their gloves or get close enough to see their stitches under their sleeves.
Though they look clear enough when it's not being covered, still keep in mind that under long sleeves, shadows cover them and it could be not so flowy to be able to have an opening to see it clearly as well even if one gets close enough. And to be extra sure if they really want to- others could get some skin-toned cloths in there, just that someone like Nim might feel uncomfortable when they're wearing gloves instead of just long sleeves.

emdanhan, April 1st, 2019, 4:01 pm     Reply

@Denruka: But you're really going to tell me that throughout all of HISTORY not one person from another country got a view a Stratoversian's arm in some circumstance? I mean, it's possible but still extremely unlikely. And putting that aside, this is just a let down from a story telling perspective. It's just such a stupid, underwhelming reveal to that mystery in my opinion.

Guest, May 9th, 2019, 6:51 am     Reply

@emdanhan: I agree but maybe it has a plot line that ties in with destiny or magical fate perhaps? Rylie may have been the one to figure it out since she seems to have a worldly magical connection (with the rainbow stuff & all) even though it's more of an obvious theory that others would have been able to figure out... But it has been clear that some have already figured it out like prof. Purple and Inversian power hold too as hinted, but the general public of these verses probably wasn't aware or let known by the governors. A rl example, Area 51. Not many people know what goes on there even though there are theories and assumptions and a lot of scientists and experts work there. They are controlled by the government

emdanhan, May 9th, 2019, 7:15 am     Reply

@Guest: Sure, that's definitely possible. But to me it still feels just lazy from a storytelling standpoint, especially if the reason is "destiny".

Guest, May 9th, 2019, 7:42 am     Reply

@emdanhan: I mean Gloomverse is taking place in a magical world and from what we've seen so far, a lot of the things have connections like Gloomverse most likely being named after Amadeus Gloom and so on. So Rylie being one to figure it out is not that much of a surprise to me, destiny or not, since it's already strongly hinted she has connection to all this.
But that aside, more people might know of Stratoverse secrets than we may think. Like I said, the verses' power holds, even though the general public may not know. And from what we've seen, the Verses' power holds also have been given a lot of focus AND there are hints that they know a lot more of Startoverse secrets, especially Inverse. So who's to say not one person has figured out about this. We don't know that for sure yet. There's likely a good bunch that knows about it than we know. So I think it's good to keep an open mind to all the possibilities. A story is more enjoyable that way :P

Guest, May 10th, 2019, 7:30 am     Reply

@emdanhan: I'd also like to add to that as hints and evidence that back this up...
If you go back and read through "The World Leaders" chapter, the president of Gloomverse doesn't want Nim/Cirrus (specifically Sratoversians) flying in highly populated areas and this would explain why not many Gloomversians really think about Stratoverse and how they use magic. Actually many Gloomversians were surprised to even learn there were "flying" people saving others at the magic show... even Seaweed (Waking World pg 9). That obviously shows how Gloomverse power hold doesn't want their people to know much or if any at all about Stratoverse and in fact, most Gloomversians seem to be clueless about Stratoverse. And if not many people know about Stratoverse, not many people would question how they use magic. Even Virga, the Stratoverse queen, directly questions/mentions how the Gloomversian president doesn't want Gloomverse people to learn "other ways of magic" or of the "storm" (The World Leaders pg 13), which btw is another strong hint that the Gloomversian president also knows about Stratoverse magic
